The Foundation has been actively involved in strengthening and improving the healthcare services in urban, rural and tribal areas for over three decades. Since its inception, the Foundation has been providing healthcare services to the underserved population through its hospital setups and mobile health units. Moreover, the organization undertakes collaborative evidence based research projects to formulate interventions that would create a large scale impact on public health.
Deepak Medical Foundation- Nandesari, Gujarat
In 1981, Deepak Medical Foundation (DMF) hospital was established. A 15 bedded hospital that caters to about 50,000 rural population of Nandesari and surrounding villages. The hospital provides 24×7 preventive and curative medical services to the local community. Apart from the presence of committed doctors and staff, the hospital is well equipped with an operation theatre, labour room, intensive care unit, and round the clock ambulance services. The hospital regularly conducts awareness programs to disseminate information on reproductive health and nutrition, sexually transmitted diseases such as AIDs and HIV, immunization, and family planning.
Deepak Occupational Health Centre- Nandesari, Gujarat
In 2013, Deepak Occupational Health Centre (DOHC) was initiated under Deepak Medical Foundation in the heart of Nandesari Industrial area. DOHC is a CSR initiative of Deepak Group of Companies which provides comprehensive occupational health services to industrial workers. DOHC is primarily established for promoting optimal health of the industrial workers working in organized and unorganized sector in Nandesari and surrounding GIDC areas. The centre undertakes health awareness campaigns, trainings and workshops to sensitize workers on occupational health hazards, and safety measures to prevent them.
Medical services at SSG hospital- Vadodara, Gujarat
Deepak Foundation in partnership with corporates and Department of Health and Family Welfare has operationalized help desk and medical buggy services at SSG hospitals. These medical services are functional 24*7 to provide timely services to critical cases referred from various regions. Information display monitors installed at help desk reduces the waiting and enquiry time at the help desk. Through these services the Foundation focuses on:
- Extending 24*7 medical services to be a part of “Accessible India Campaign”
- Assistance and guidance to emergency cases
- Counseling and guidance on family planning services, maternal and child benefit schemes, and other welfare schemes
- Assistance in procurement of blood/ diagnostic tests
CEmONC- Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, and Jharkhand
Comprehensive Emergency Obstetric and Newborn Care (CEmONC) is one of the unique free-of-cost, sustainable, and longest partnership models in India. Deepak Foundation has been successfully operating 55 bedded CEmONC unit at Jabugam since 2006-7. The success later has led the Foundation to replicate the CEmONC unit in tribal areas of Madhya Pradesh (since 2016) and Jharkhand (since 2017). CEmONC units are designed to attend to complicated and high risk deliveries with availability of specialist doctors and nursing staff round the clock.
Deaddiction & Counselling Centre- Hyderabad
Deepak Foundation in partnership with Deepak Nitrite Ltd. has initiated a deaddiction centre in Hyderabad with a vision of providing counselling and rehabilitation services for the people addicted to alcoholism and substance abuse in urban areas. Hyderabad city police has tied up with the deaddiction centre to provide counselling services to the victims who have been penalised under the act of drink and drive. An addiction control committee with 7 members has been formed. The centre regularly organises different events and cultural programs in the slums to disseminate information on de-addiction.
Deepak Foundation in collaboration with VTV has undertaken the task of conducting awareness sessions on various topics such as tobacco and alcohol de-addiction, hygiene and sanitation, and HIV AIDs along with specialized health camp for the Sakarda community for year 2017-18.
Eye health care and awareness campaigns- Anand, Kheda, and Vadodara district
ONGC Cambay had approached Deepak Foundation to generate preventive healthcare and hygiene awareness along with conducting regular eye check-up camps in selected villages of Gujarat. Gujarat has more than 500,000 blind. Fortunately 80% of the blindness is curable according to NAB (National Association for Blind), India. To prevent avoidable blindness eye camps as well as awareness campaigns were organised in Anand, Kheda and Vadodara district.
Nutrition project, Bharuch
In order to reduce malnutrition, an intervention strategy that effectively addresses the barriers to utilization of health and nutrition services is necessary. A Nutrition project has been implemented in Bharuch to address the issue of under-nutrition. The integrated approach will entail the following:
- Strengthening of public service delivery system
- Improve utilization of the government’s health and nutrition programs
- Behavior change communication to improve nutritional intake among adolescents
- Promotion of essential new born care and maternal health
- Medical check- up and screening for anemia among school children
Mobile Health Unit- Gujarat, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand
In 2007, first MHU was initiated with the Department of Health and Family Welfare. Currently, the Foundation has operationalized 12 MHU with the support of government as well as various corporate partners in Gujarat, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh and Jharkhand. MHU functions with the aim of providing affordable, accessible, and quality healthcare to unreached and under-privileged rural and tribal areas. The Foundation has extensive experience in operating MHUs and implementing focused health care programs in poor communities.
Sub-centre upgradation- Madhuban, Jharkhand
In collaboration with Department of Health and Family Welfare, Government of Jharkhand, Deepak Foundation has facilitated the activation and upgradation of sub-centre of Madhuban block, Giridhi district which was non-functional for a long time. Medical buggy services have also been initiated for mobilization in the community. These services are providing medical services to tribal communities in remote villages in Madhuban block.
